Analyzing market and competitors
To do that you need to rank for the right keywords. The right keyword will bring visitors who are looking for exactly what you have. You have to figure out who your target market is, what they are searching for, what keywords they will use to find it. Then you have to get them to your site and keep them there.
So, who is your target market and what are they looking for? If you design a website you think will attract clients, but you aren’t really sure who your customers are or what they need instead of what you think they want; it is unlikely your website will be successful.
Keyword research consists of the following three (3) important steps:
- Finding as many keywords as possible relating to your Web site. We’ll discuss some online tools to help speed up your research process. Tools that will allow you to search for related keywords and show you the relative search popularity.
- Finding the most targeted keywords for your website. The most generic keywords are the most widely searched (for example: dog collars) and they are the most competitive. These keywords are so generic they often bring mediocre conversion rates because they are not targeted to your specific audience (for example: martingale dog collars). Generally, phrases that can most accurately describe specific components of your website will give you a higher return on investment (ROI).
- Analyzing market (and your) competitors for potential keywords. Checking out what your market’s competitors are using as keywords will give you an idea of how competitive your market it, where your competitors are focusing their attention and give you ideas on where you can jump ahead by focusing on different (yet similar) keywords they missed.
